FX Editing.

The optional EB16 effect board allows you to apply various effects to each sound in the MPC using the two multi-effect paths and the two reverb paths. Set the effect route of the sound output on the top level of the FX send screen and the level on the bottom. It is also possible to make more detailed settings when OPEN WINDOW is pressed (see 'The Mixer' section for more details).

Editing the Effects.

To edit the effects go to FXedit in the mixer screen then in the Edit: field select either MULTI FX1, MULTI FX2, REVERB 1 or REVERB 2.

Select which program to use in the Pgm: field.

Turn each effect on or off by highliting with the cursor keys and press on/ off button, MIX must also be activated to hear any FX settings.

By pressing OPEN WINDOW you can open the Effect Mixer and make detailed settings.

Direct sig: This field turns the direct sound of the signal input to an effect on or off, when it is on the level or pan of the direct sound is adjusted by the stereo mixer.

On the right hand side of the screen it is possible to adjust the pan, level and width (where applicable) of each effect.

There are numerous effects routing combinations, such as:-

MULTI-FX:-

Within MULTI mode there are five effects these are:-

DISTORTION.

FILTER.

MODULATION.

ECHO.

REVERB

.

Edit each effect by pressing OPEN WINDOW on the desired effect.

By pressing SOLO you can listen to the effect that you are editing ignoring any others.

By pressing BYPASS you can silence the currently selected effect whilst listening to the others.

By pressing MIXER you can go to the Effect Mixer window (MIX).

DISTORTION/ RING MODULATOR:-

Distortion simulates the distorted sound produced by overloading the entry signal, Ring Modulator changes the key by using the internal oscillator producing a metallic sound.

For the Distortion you can adjust the Gain: and Level: fields.

For the Ring Modulator you can set the Frequency: and Depth: fields.

4-BAND FILTER:-

The four band filter consists of a high-pass filter, two middle pitch band pass filters and a low pass filter. You can vary the frequency of each band and overlap them. An auto-wow effect can be produced when the pitch filter is changed in the middle pitch band pass.

Set the centre frequency and gain for each bandwidth. The two middle pitch Q's adjust the bandwidth of the effect. Change the anomanal frequency and sweep volume with the <F-MOD> and depth settings.

MODULATION:-

Produces various effects such as phaser, flanger and chorus. Select each effect by rotating the DATA wheel in the Type: field.

<Phaser>: Adds a hissing effect to the sound, adjust the speed, depth and feedback to the right side of the screen.

<Flanger>: Also adds a hissing effect but sounds deeper, make adjustments in the same manner as above.

<Chorus>: Provides a sound similar to the playing of multiple instruments, adjust in the same manner as above.

<Rotary Speakers>: Simulates the sound of a rotary speaker. Adjust the Speed 1 and depth on the left and MIDI controller, Acceleration and Speed 2 on the right to create a suitable balance of effect.

<Modulation and Auto-pan>: Use this to create effects such as vibratos and Doppler effects.

<Pitch Shifter>: This effect produces a shift in the pitch of the original sound, set the left and right tune to process this stereo effect.

<Pitch Shifter and Feedback>: Combines a delay effect with the pitchshift. Set tune as above and add delay and feedback as required. When this type is selected the main ECHO/ DELAY effect is ignored

DELAY/ ECHO:-

An effect which broadens the sound by overlaying sounds slightly delayed on the original sound. You can select a MONO (LEFT, L&R), or STEREO (X over L&R, STEREO) effect. You can edit the feedback, feedback delay and HF damping in STEREO mode and the same in MONO mode with the addition of L/ R offset.

REVERB:-

Reverb can also be selected as a single effect in the REVERB 1 or 2 paths in the main FXedit screen.

There are three types of reverb: Hall (room), Gate and reverse.

<HALL, ROOM>:-

Choose from LARGE HALL, SMALL HALL,

LARGE ROOM and SMALL ROOM in the type: field. It is possible to set the following parameters:-

Pre-delay: Adjusts the time from the generation of the sound to the beginning of the reverb.

Time: Sets the time it takes for the reverb to diminish and dissolve.

Diffuse: Sets the density of the reflecting sound.

Near: Adjusts the apparent distance from the sound source.

LF damping: Cuts the low frequencies contained in the reverb.

HF damping: Cuts the high frequencies contained in the reverb.

<GATE>:-

There are two gates available, the second is a bit more harsh. There are three parameter fields that can be adjusted:-

Pre-delay: Adjusts the time from the generation of the sound to the beginning of the reverb.

Time: Sets the time it takes for the reverb to diminish and dissolve.

Diffuse: Sets the density of the reflecting sound.

<REVERSE>:-

In this mode the decay effect is produced in reverse, again their are three parameter fields:-

Pre-delay: Adjusts the time from the generation of the sound to the beginning of the reverb.

Time: Sets the time it takes for the reverb to diminish and dissolve.

Diffuse: Sets the density of the reflecting sound.

It is possible to set a specific effect output in the effect mixer screen, press the OPEN WINDOW in the desired effect field.

Four sets of effects settings can be saved for each program, it is possible to copy effect settings into other sets and to other programs. Select Pgm: on the FXedit screen and press OPEN WINDOW, select destination paths and press DO IT.
